Finalizing Discs on the DC330 [Canon DVD Camcorder]
So, this discovery probably comes from the RTFM department, but I’ll share it anyway because the manual supplied with the DC330 is severely lacking.
If you want to finalize a DVD on several of Canon’s DVD camcorders (I assume) and more specifically the DC330, you’ll probably have to plug in the power. The camcorder doesn’t trust that the battery will last throughout the entire finalization process (which could take a few seconds to several minutes) and won’t take the risk of permanently ruining your precious memories caught on tape DVD.

kind of like how typically you have to keep your notebook plugged into AC if you want to update its BIOS.
Sometimes even that doesn’t help…
(don’t ask…I had a bad experience…)
If you don’t want me to ask, don’t mention it
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! You just saved a families christmas
Thank you very much man!!! you saved my friends marriage!!!!
@Derrick, Alberto
Well, I hope your Christmas/friend’s marriage wasn’t teetering on the success of the video, but I know the feeling! I’m glad you found the answer you were looking for!
Well, no i have finalized the disk but how in the hell do i edit the single videos that ive takin, when i put the dvd in the comp. it just gives me one long avi file???
It’s been long time since I’ve dealt with this camera, but I believe you just need to copy the video file to your computer and edit it using the video editing software of your choice. The individual videos are contained in that one long AVI file.
If you don’t have any video editing software, try the free Windows Movie Maker that should already be on your Windows computer. If not, go here:

I have been breaking my head for the past 18 months why does it finalize some time and not all the time, now after reading this article I am able to finalize all my old DVDs.Thanks a Bunch
Man,
THANK YOU SO MUCH!..
You just saved me from making tedious phone calls. I read the manual and there is NO sign of this issue in the entire manual!.. I was going to call Canon but just wanted to give it a shot here. This thread was the first to pop…
I immediately tried: With the battery (showing plenty in the battery bar), the “Finalize” option was black (not available) as soon as I hooked up the power cord, it turned white (available).
I will share this finding with other Canon owners…:))))
Thank you! This really worked. I always wondered what made some discs finalize and others not. Now I can go through all the old ones and finalize and upload them. I have some irreplaceable stuff so better to get them up asap. tHANK YOU!
