As far as I know, this method is the only way to clear the device of data without physically destroying the device.

I had no trouble getting the prompt but when that screen came up there were no buttons for me to press. Any ideas? Is there some other way to erase all data? If I remove the back will that do it? Thanks for any help.

Yeah, exactly. I'm not sure if there's a time limit, but after trying to reset it a couple times, I found that holding the button until the prompt appeared was the only way to know you've held it long enough. Otherwise, it won't complete the reset.

It was Justin Marty's comment that helped me complete this. I was holding both the power button and the reset buttons, and didn't realize that it was simply a matter of holding the power button, then press and release the reset button while holding the Power button a while longer. It didn't automatically pop up with the prompt for me to delete, though, I held it for probably 20 seconds, then figured I'd done something wrong so I let go of the power button at which point I got the prompt. Not sure how long it's necessary to hold it, though.

Awesome!

It took me about 10 tries to get it right. I think it had something to do with letting go of the power button too soon; that's why I recommend holding it down until the prompt appears.
