WiFi Scan / Wardriving
This page displays an interactive Google Maps mashup of wireless access points with dynamic pin colors and detailed information including geographical coordinates, type of encryption (if any), and signal strength. Below the map is a link to download the KML file for use in Google Earth. Most, if not all, of the points have been captured during wardriving (though, I may have been a passenger in the vehicle, or walking, or riding a bike), with an Android-powered smartphone using WiFi Scan. This page will be regularly updated with new points.
What is wardriving?
Wardriving is the act of searching for Wi-Fi wireless networks by a person in a moving vehicle, using a portable computer or PDA. Discover more at Wikipedia.
About WiFi Scan
Wifi Scan is a (kick-ass) wardriving application developed by waterflea for the Android platform..
Note: The points situated at the intersection of the prime meridian and the equator (west of Africa) are not actually found there, in case you were wondering. This is due to a bug in the WiFi Scan program that will place access points at latitude 0 and longitude 0 before the device has a chance to determine the GPS coordinates.
